This morning we decide to walk the three miles to site, and once we arrived in the village, we were greeted by a huge crowd of kids! Half of the group split between work with the kids or with the compassion house for the very last time this summer.
Since it was a beautiful day, we decide to plan a fun-filled day with the kids. We walk a few yards to an open field in front of the local schoolhouse and the local market. There we go through a bunch of childhood games: Red Rover, London Bridges, tag, a few racing games, and more. Talk about competitive children! The restless kids competed for prizes such as coloring books, puzzles, and crayons. By the end of the day, we said our goodbyes to the kids for the final time.
Over at the compassion house, completion was going very smoothly. The inside walls have been covered, and now we were working on the outside walls of the home. Soon, it will be finished! Today, all of the workers we had originally met on the first day was there. About an hour before our departure, officials from MQI and the village came to site today for one last get-together with the VHP group. The family of the home prepared a delicious meal of banh xeo for us. We chatted, prepared speeches, took a few photos with the officials and the local workers, and thanked the Vietnamese community that has been supporting our work at the village.
It’s hard to believe that our days in Quang Ngai is over. It was a great experience working with the inspiring children and working side-by-side with the locals on the compassion house. Some days it was tough, but our time in the Tinh Ky village was definitely something that everyone enjoyed and will remember for years!
