We finally finish the hole! Took about two days to complete the one meter deep hole with every single VHP member jumping into the pit at least once. Over at Co Chin’s house, we were finding creative ways to expose the children to the English language with American entertainment – in today’s case, Pokemon: The Movie.
Screening American movies and t.v. shows is a good idea for exposing the children to the English language, but we wished that we had brought along some Vietnamese cartoons or something that the kids are more familiar with. Soon enough, we switch our activities to group puzzles.
We only had six puzzles and about 40 kids, so team work had to be the solution to keeping every kid busy. Luckily, we had Co Chin who was able to direct the children to work on the puzzles in groups and switch to another puzzle when finished. At each puzzle was about six or seven children working together. It was enlightening to see how well the kids worked together, listening to each other’s opinion and when finally completing the puzzle, how pleased they were with themselves. It was the groups that worked together who finished the puzzles quicker. Eventually, the groups would move onto a different puzzle until every puzzle was solved.
Tomorrow is our last day at site. It will be our last day with this community and volunteering, so we’ll make the best out of it!
