Since the walls are getting higher it&#8217;s not very safe for VHP members to brick-layer, so most members stayed down low on the ground. No ladders were used to work on the higher walls: the locals stood on a wooden plank balanced by metal poles. We piled bricks and buckets of cement onto the wooden plank for the workers.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-90\" src=\"https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/179146_3314419871551_670964365_n.jpg\" alt=\"179146 3314419871551 670964365 n\" width=\"359\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/179146_3314419871551_670964365_n.jpg 359w, https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/179146_3314419871551_670964365_n-224x300.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The elder man likes to help out, so a group of us helped him carry the buckets of cement to the wooden planks. The current supply of bricks is dwindling so another order of bricks is needed. Soon we run out of the bricks, and we are done with the compassion house for the day. The outlines for the windows have already been created as well as the doorways, so now there is not much left to do but work with the children for the rest of the day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-91\" src=\"https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC00514.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00514\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC00514.jpg 640w, https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC00514-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since it was a nice, cloudy day we decided to have some outdoor activities in a sandy, open space nearby Co Chin&#8217;s house. In the beginning the children were too shy to join in the on the games, and opted to just observe as we played the games with a handful of volunteers. Soon enough, the children joined in on games of Duck, Duck, Goose, Tug &#8216;o&#8217; War, and a chicken-chase game. Curious mothers stopped by and laughed at our activities and encouraged their children to join in on the fun. Even though we were exhausted, the children were full of energy and up to anything.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-92\" src=\"https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC00503.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00503\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC00503.jpg 640w, https:\/\/vietnamhealthproject.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/DSC00503-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After all the fun and games, we brought the kids into Co Chin&#8217;s house and handed out enough comic books for every child. It was a good activity to unwind at the end of the day with individual reading and snacks. It&#8217;s great because now there are familiar faces. The kids were happy to hear that we were returning the next day, and for the next week.
